Support Program
Learning Assistance Program - (LAP)
This very special program gives children the chance to work with an adult volunteer once a week to learn more about anything they feel they want or need to. It gives children the opportunity to develop gifts and talents or to work on strengthening skills in areas of need. Both child and adult enjoy the time they spend together.
Seasons for Growth
Seasons for Growth is about handling grief. St. Philomena’s have people trained who can help children talk about their feelings. Loss and grief are issues which affect all of us at some stage in our lives. Learning to deal effectively with these issues is central to personal well being and happiness. The program explores such issues as change, loss, managing feelings, coping strategies and support networks.
Aboriginal Homework Centre
On two afternoons a week, an Aboriginal Homework centre operates within the school. The centre is coordinated through DEET, where students of all ages spend afternoon sessions with trained tutors who monitor homework completion and support the work taking place in classrooms.
Secondary Homework Centre
Operates one afternoon per week from 3:30 to 5:00 in the Library. The Homework Centre is designed to allow students to work in an environment which encourages good study / revision skills. Staff are there to help students with their class work and assignments. Students should bring all their own equipment and study matter.
Additional Needs Support
Through State Government funding allocated to dioceses, application for special funding can be made to assist students with specific professional identified needs. Very strict guidelines are in place for the distribution of these funds.
